Roachlike Stoneflies Nymphs

These small stoneflies (up to 1 cm) look very much like little cockroaches. There is only one species in the family Peltoperlidae in Ohio, Peltoperla arcuata Needham. The common name is Roachfly. They are found only in small cold headwater streams or tributaries in undisturbed areas. They are associated with rotting wood and leaf packs. They have been located most recently in Mohican State Park in the tributaries to the Clear Fork of the Mohican River below Pleasant Hill Dam.
